Because of You

Just when you think you have it all figured out
Here I come
Just when you begin to relax and think to yourself
“Life is good”
Here I come
A pact, a commitment, a lifelong contract
meaningless
Here I come to add a little flavor to the mix
Here I come to make stability seem unstable
Just when you thought you were moving forward
Is really backwards?
White is black and so on
Here I come to say to you, “Why?”
Why do I love you love someone else?
And if you do, why?
I have the best of both worlds?
Here I come, always alone, watching the past slip through my fingers only to repeat itself yet again
Is it easier to love you because you love another?
Maybe
But it’s not easier to love you because you love another
I hope you understand
Here I come as a reminder of just how unfair life is
Of just how cruel nature can be
Paying for the crimes of others
While you go home to your security
I am left here to survive on my own
Now who has it better?
Here I come to show you, to make it unmistakably clear
that I love you not because of your finger trinkets
but because of you
